Korean Course

24510 weeks / 2 hours per week
  • Levels: Beginner (A1.1)

  • Number of hours per week: 2 hours per week

  • Timetable: Classes take place on the Wednesday evenings

    • Wednesday evenings – A1.1 classes
  • Minimum Age: 18

  • Term Start date: The new term begins on 8th July, with the first class date depending on the level:

    • 8th July – A1.1 classes
  • Registration Deadline: 25 June 2026

Features of Korean Course

During our ten week course, some of the things you will learn to do are:

  1. Meet and greet people. For e.g.,  안녕하세요, 잘 지내요? 감사합니다 등 말하기.
  2. Saying what sth is. For e.g., “저것은 사과인가요?” “아니요 그렇지 않아요.”
  3. Use particles to introduce a new topic, make general statements e.g.,”차에 관해서라면, 저는 그것을 좋아해요 .”
  4. Saying what you have and don’t have. e.g. “물이 있나요?” “아니요 없어요.”
  5. Using the phrases “Give me … please.” or “I would like to have … please.” to order food at a restaurant. e.g. “김치 좀 주세요.”
  6. Expressing intentions. e.g. “뭐 하고 싶어요?” “저는 먹고 싶어요.”
  7. Use the simple present tense to talk about ongoing actions, general truths, routines, etc. e.g. “나는 매일 커피를 마신다.”
  8. Use the past tense to describe actions that have already happened. e.g., “나는 한국어를 공부 했다.”
  9. Use location markers to tell us where sth exists, goes, or where an action happens. e.g., “나는 학교에 가요l.” “그 책은 책상 위에 있다.”
  10. Talk about time and location. (from … to…) / (… until …) e.g. “휴가 날짜가 언제에요?” “여기에서 역까지 어떻게 가요?”

We also aim to extend stronger students’ learning by learning to do the following additional things;

  1. Learn about Sino-Korean and native Korean numbers.
  2. Deepen your knowledge of Korean culture by means of videos or articles.

Assessment

At the end of the course, students will do a short speaking assessment with the teacher.

 Progression

After the course, students should register for Introduction to Korean 2 (A1.2)
