Your Ultimate Pack guide for studying English with Atlas: Ireland, UK & Malta
Studying abroad is an incredible experience! You’re about to immerse yourself in a new culture, make lifelong friends, and improve your language skills. But before you step onto that plane, there’s one crucial step: packing your bags.
Whether you’re heading to Dublin, Liverpool, or Malta, this packing guide for studying English in Ireland, UK and Malta will help you pack what you need and leave behind what you don’t. We’ve included universal essentials plus specific tips for each destination so you’re ready for any weather or cultural difference.
Universal Essentials
Travel Documents
Bring your passport and visa (if required). Having copies can be helpful just make sure to keep them separate from the originals for safety.
Money Matters
Carry a debit/credit card (notify your bank about your travel) and a small amount of local currency for arrival (€ for Ireland/Malta, £ for the UK).
Electronics
Pack your phone and charger, a universal travel adapter (Type G works in all three locations), and a portable power bank. A laptop or tablet isn’t required but can be useful if you’re staying longer. Don’t forget headphones and maybe a camera for memories.
Health & Personal Care
Bring a starter set of toiletries, any prescription medication, a reusable water bottle, sunglasses, and sunscreen (yes, even for Ireland!).
Comfort
Pack comfortable walking shoes and a daypack for excursions. Your first day in Dublin or Liverpool includes a walking tour, so you’ll use them right away.

Expect ‘four seasons in on day.’ Layers are key!
- A breathable waterproof jacket with a hood is essential.
- T-shirts, long sleeves, sweaters, and cardigans.
- Jeans or comfortable trousers, warm socks, and in colder months, a hat, scarf, and gloves.
- Waterproof walking shoes or boots.
- A dressier outfit if you plan to enjoy the nightlife.
Cultural note: Style is casual, but locals in Ireland and Liverpool love to dress up for evenings out, so bring something you feel good in.

Malta
With its Mediterranean climate, Malta is warm most of the year.
- In summer: lightweight cotton or linen clothing, shorts, dresses, and plenty of swimwear.
- In winter: layers like long sleeves and a light waterproof jacket.
- Sandals or flip-flops for the beach, plus comfy walking shoes for exploring.
- A sun hat, insect repellent, and lots of sunscreen.

Smart Packing Tips
- Check your airline’s baggage limits to avoid fees.
- Leave valuables or anything you can’t replace at home.
- Leave extra room for souvenirs, you’ll want to bring memories back with you!
