Additional Living Costs in Ireland
When planning your English language course in Ireland, you should also consider additional living costs.
The cost indications below are provided as indicative guidance only. The actual costs may vary depending on location, lifestyle, accommodation type, duration of stay, and personal circumstances.
Students may book accommodation through Atlas Language School or arrange their own accommodation independently.
If accommodation is not provided by Atlas, typical costs may include:
- Shared room (private rental): approx. €600 – €900 per month
- Single room (private rental): approx. €900 – €1,300 per month
- Studio / private apartment: €1,300+ per month
The above costs vary significantly depending on location, demand and facilities. Generally, the cost in city centre locations is significantly higher.
- Utilities & internet (if not included): approx. €80 – €150 per month
- Deposit / advance rent: usually 1 month’s rent in advance
- Groceries: approx. €200 – €300 per month
- Eating out / take-away: approx. €10 – €20 for a casual meal
- Total monthly food & subsistence: approx. €250 – €400 per month
Costs depend on whether meals are included in accommodation and can vary greatly depending on individual lifestyle choices.
- Student Leap Card (monthly): approx. €80 – €120 per month
- Single journey (with student fare): approx. €1.50 – €2.50 per journey
Public transport costs depend on travel frequency and distance between accommodation and school. Students who live close to the school may reduce transport costs by walking or cycling.
- GP (doctor) visit: approx. €50 – €70 per visit
- Prescription medication: varies depending on medication
- Emergency care in public hospitals: €100 – €150 per visit. May be covered partially or fully by insurance, depending on policy. Though, usually insurances have an excess which would not cover the initial emergency care cost.
Healthcare costs vary depending on insurance coverage and services required.
Private medical insurance is mandatory for non-EEA learners. This can be arranges with the school
Basic private medical insurance for international learners is approx. €180 – €220 per academic year (depending on provider and cover)
Students who require immigration permission to study in Ireland may need to pay additional fees directly to immigration authorities.
- Entry visa application (if applicable): approx.€100
- Irish Residence Permit (IRP) registration: approx. €300 per year
Immigration-related fees are not paid to Atlas Language School and are subject to change by the relevant authorities.
Atlas Language School offers a social and cultural programme throughout the year.
- Free activities: conversation clubs, walking tours, social events
- Paid activities / excursions: approx. €5 – €40 per activity
- Day trips / excursions: approx. €30 – €80 (depending on destination)

- Registration or administration fees: as per published price lists
- Course materials / textbooks: approx. €40 per academic term/level
- Exam fees (where applicable): approx. €150 – €250 per exam
- Airport transfers (optional): approx. €100 per journey
- Accommodation placement fee (if applicable): as per published price lists
