Music & Movies Walking Tour
Welcome to another walking tour from Atlas Dublin. This time we are walking and talking about music and movies!
We see where iconic films were shot, legendary music was born, and how creativity still beats through the streets today. This tour offers a fresh perspective on Dublin’s cultural side all just steps from Atlas Language School.

1. Synge Street – Sing Street & The Commitments
We start at Synge Street, the real-life setting of the hit film Sing Street – a heart warming coming-of-age story about love, music, and chasing dreams in 1980s recession era Dublin.
Nearby, we also talk about The Commitments, the gritty, soulful comedy about a group of unemployed misfits trying to make it big in music. Both films offer a nostalgic look at Dublin’s working-class spirit and its deep connection to sound.
2. Whelan’s Pub – Live Music Legend
Next, we head to the legendary Whelan’s Pub – a must-see for music lovers.
Jeff Buckley once played here, Ed Sheeran found creative inspiration from Damien Rice within its walls, and it became the backdrop for one of P.S. I Love You’s most iconic scenes. Still a buzzing venue today, Whelan’s is where Dublin’s live music magic happens. Be sure to check out their website to see some upcoming acts.
3. St. Stephen’s Green – Michael Collins & U2

At St. Stephen’s Green, we chat about Michael Collins – both the film and the revolutionary who helped shape modern Ireland.
Here, we also pay tribute to U2, one of the most iconic rock bands in the world, who began their journey right here in Dublin.
4. Grafton Street – Once & The Busking Scene
Strolling down Grafton Street, you’ll instantly feel the energy.
The street is alive with buskers, from violinists to full bands – keeping Dublin’s musical heartbeat going strong.
It was also a filming location of the Oscar-winning indie film Once. This small, soulful love story took the world by surprise, thanks to its beautiful soundtrack and heartfelt performances, especially the unforgettable song Falling Slowly.

5. Trinity College – Normal People & Star Wars Inspiration
At Trinity College, fans of Normal People will spot familiar backdrops from the hit series.
And for film buffs – did you know the library probably inspired the Jedi Archives in Star Wars? Although George Lucas denies it, the resemblance is uncanny.
6. Ha’penny Bridge – Phil Lynott’s Old Town
As we cross the famous Ha’penny Bridge, we salute Irish rock legend Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy.
This landmark was featured in his Old Town music video – a love letter to Dublin and one of the most iconic visuals in Irish music history.

7. Irish Rock ’n’ Roll Museum – A Temple Bar Highlight
Tucked inside Temple Bar, the Irish Rock ’n’ Roll Museum celebrates legends like The Dubliners, Rory Gallagher, and Sinéad O’Connor – artists who shaped Irish music and left their mark on the world stage. It’s also a great place to learn about Dublin’s modern music scene and see where history was made.
8. Modern Voices – Fontaines D.C. & Kneecap
To wrap things up, we spotlight today’s Irish talent making global waves.
Think Fontaines D.C., with their poetic, punk-inspired energy or Kneecap, a fearless rap trio blending Irish language and politics with raw, unapologetic power.
