Erasmus+ Teacher Training

Overall, Erasmus+ Teacher Training is the EU’s programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. In fact, the programme has taken over the funding of training for teachers in other European countries from 2014 to 2020.

Above all, the Key Action 1 is all about providing opportunities for individuals to improve their skills and enhance their employability. Second, the programme aims to increase cultural awareness.

Erasmus+ Teacher Training Courses at Atlas Language School

Atlas Language School is an approved training centre for the ACELS / QQI Certificate in English Language Teaching (CELT). What’s more it has a team of DELTA-qualified, experienced and motivated ELT teacher trainers. They are not only practising teachers of English, but also experienced in using up-to-date, innovative methods at all levels of language learning. These methods include for instance bringing Irish life and culture into the classroom or using the city as the classroom.

1) Life, Language and Literature — A New ELT Methodology Course for Teachers

Required English Language Level: B2

Summary:

The Life, Language and Literature for Teachers is a two-week course. It consists of 20 contact lessons per week. In addition, we offer an extensive cultural and social programme which is directly linked to the afternoon sessions. Above all, there is a distinct focus on exploring teaching methodologies. Consequently, that will allow us to bring literature and culture into the ELT classroom. However, the course also involves a significant element of English language improvement and a focus on developing language awareness.

We have developed this course for practising teachers who wish to update their knowledge of contemporary English in the first place. Secondly, it is meant for those who want to increase their appreciation of different methodologies. Finally, the course is made for teachers who want to learn how to bring culture and literature into the ELT classroom. What’s more, the course explores and promotes awareness of Anglo-Irish literature in Dublin, a UNESCO City of Literature. We also examine the impact of recent developments in ELT on the teaching of literature and cross-cultural awareness.

Methodology:

In a nutshell, the input sessions are a blend of theory and practice based on Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) methodology. First of all, the participants will reflect on their own practice. Afterwards, they will be asked to consider alternative practices. Lastly, they will build up a bank of resources that they can try out and adapt to their own professional teaching contexts. Finally, during the course, the participants will also take part in the activity programme. For one thing, the activities aim to specifically develop their language skills in a more informal environment outside the classroom. Hence, they will have a chance to further enhance their knowledge of Ireland.

2) Technology in the Classroom

Required English Language Level: B2

Summary:

This Teachers’ Course is a two-week course. In fact, it consists of 20 contact lessons per week. In addition, we offer an extensive cultural and social programme which is directly linked to the afternoon sessions.

First of all, the course addresses recent pedagogical technology developments in ELT. Hence, it should increase participants’ confidence in the use of certain applications. Especially, in the environment where many of the students are strongly computer literate. In addition, it will provide an opportunity to develop participants’ own language skills and promote awareness of modern Ireland. Finally, the programme intends to establish contacts between teachers from different European countries and open doors to future networking.

Methodology:

In a nutshell, the input sessions are a blend of theory and practice in ELT. For starters, they include using the presentation and practical activities by means of the web, mobile and other classroom technology. On one hand, the participants will get to use all of the devices and applications to which they are introduced. On the other hand, they will learn how to adapt some ready-made programmes to their particular classroom requirements. Hence, they will take part in the activity programme in order to develop language skills in a more informal environment. Finally, the course addresses exploiting school trips with mobile technology. Altogether the course will certainly help them further enhance their knowledge of Ireland.

3) CLIL – Content & Language Integrated Learning

Required English Language Level: Course A: B2+ | Course B: A2

What is CLIL?

Basically anyone who teaches a subject matter in a foreign language can be interested in the CLIL course. Therefore, it could be useful for teachers who work in Bilingual schools or even academic English teachers.

Who is the CLIL course for?

This CLIL Course is a two-week course. In fact, it consists of 20 contact lessons per week. Additionally, it includes an extensive cultural and social programme. The social programme will certainly allow you to enjoy Dublin city while you study. Above all, there is a distinct focus on exploring CLIL principles and techniques in the classroom. However, the course also addresses the English language improvement and awareness.
Above all, we have developed this course for practising teachers who wish to update. However, it is equally important for teachers who are new to CLIL. What’s more, the teachers will get the opportunity to update their knowledge of contemporary English. Furthermore, the course explores and promotes awareness of the different principles and techniques that are involved in a CLIL syllabus. Finally, it also gives a deeper insight into how to further exploit your subject materials.

Methodology:

First of all, the input sessions are a blend of theory and practice based on the CLIL. Secondly, we will use a mix of presentation and demonstration of practical teaching activities. It will certainly include both in-house developed and exploited materials. Furthermore, participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own CLIL practices. Next, they will be asked to integrate the new or refreshed techniques and ideas into their classes. What’s more, they will also take part in afternoon activities. For one thing, the activities aim to specifically develop their language skills in a more informal environment outside the classroom. Hence, they will have a chance to further enhance their knowledge of Ireland.

  • Level A2/strong>: 13 August — 24 August 2018
