Vai (Lithuania)

Intern (Front of House)

Hi Vai! Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from?

Hi there, I am Vai! I was born in Lithuania but I have lived in Ireland for most of my life. My parents moved to Dublin when I was ten, and I eventually joined them a few years later. I am currently working as a Front of House intern here at Atlas, while I finish my studies. In college I study English and French..

What do you think about Ireland?

I have to say that I was really homesick when I moved here initially: I had left all of my friends in Lithuania and I did not have much of an opinion about Ireland, I was too young. Now everything is so different: I have made Dublin my home! All my friends are here now, this is where I live, where I work and study, and I really enjoy it.

How’s it at Reception?

It can be quite challenging at times, but I love being able to help people everyday. And not only do I get to be myself and do what I love, I also get to see the students’ development, their growth, how they become more confident day by day, improving their English and opening up to others. It is great to see them make their beginnings here, the same way I made my beginnings here when I moved from Lithuania.

Any tips for new students?

If I was to give one piece of advice, it would definitely be to say ‘yes’ to as many things as you can! No matter how hard it is, how shy you think you are or lonely you think you feel, you need to step out of your comfort zone and try new activities, take part in events, meet new people. That is how you create lifetime memories.

What do you like about Atlas?

It is the first job that I have had where the people that make up the team are genuinely happy about what they do, as well as being extremely good at it, and it shows! It is also very fun, we all have a good relationship with each other and time flies so fast when you work together. I never find myself looking at the watch, bored or waiting to go back home. Atlas is my second home now.

Thanks Vai!
