Hadi Abdulhameed Alyami, Saudi Arabia

Hi Hadi, can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Hadi Alyami and I live in Saudi Arabia in the Eastern Region, in Aldhahran. I come from a big family; there are 12 of us so we live in a big house. We all get along very well, there is no problems between any of us. My father is a computer engineer, so all of us are very good at using computers even those from different generations. My name Hadi means ‘so quiet’.

Why did you come to Ireland?

Firstly to learn English, and after I finish my course here I will do an IELTS test. If I pass this I will go to University to do a course in Medicine.

Why did you come to Ireland?

I am a teacher in Spain and I decided to come here to do the First Certificate in English because now everybody who teaches in a school in Spain has to have this certificate.

What do you think of Dublin?

I like the atmosphere: the way there are a lot of people in the street and on Grafton St there are people busking. I also like the people and the pubs.

Have you always wanted to be a doctor?

Yes, it is a dream come true. I wanted to be one because in my family over the years some people have been unwell, and no one could find a cure, so I have always wanted to help them. Also, when I studied the nervous system in school, I thought it was really complicated but very interesting.

What are the main differences between Ireland and Saudi Arabia?

Every country has benefits. The weather is way too cold here – it rains everyday! In Saudi Arabia, however, it’s too hot and dry, so the two places are very different. The tow different cultures are very different, too.

What do you think about your experience abroad?

Everyone in Sausi Arabia says that I have changed in a good way. I think I am more independent. I have also made lots of great friends here from all over the world.

What do you like about Atlas?

The activities and teachers are amazing and it’s very easy to make lots of friends here. I really enjoy the school.

Is there something you would recommend to new students in Dublin?

I would recommend that students go to Howth. Knowth too – it’s older than the pyramids! In Saudi Arabia you have to go
to a mall if you want to shop, I like that you don’t have to go to a mall here. It’s nice that pedestrian streets like Grafton St exist and people walk from place to place.

Thanks Hadi!
